Conventions and conferences have provided a common membership experience every 1-2 years for active and interested alumni/alumnae to engage at the national level and network for new opportunities for service and growth. This all changed in 2020. Members now have a wide range of experiences from in-person to fully virtual and everything in between and virtual conferences and meetings open the door for a new world of national engagement never before considered. National engagement is not a replacement of chapter engagement, but provides a new reach for education, training, professional development, socialization, and service from the national or international office to the membership. Virtual conferences can increase attendance at a lower price point. Hybrid conferences can reach more members who could not otherwise attend. Opportunities exist for new experiences not before planned due to cost or issues of scale. Whether it be a 10% increase at a conference, or a nationwide event open to over 100,000, virtual events are an opportunity, not a backup plan.
