In 2023, the Fraternity Communications Association celebrated our Centennial. Comprised of a fully volunteer-lead board, committee structure, and volunteer base, our goals were aspirational, yet grounded in common sense. The Board of Directors is delighted to share four ways you can join in the celebration and even support it with your time, talent and treasure.
Together, we will continue to provide excellent networking, recognition, and education for the fraternity and sorority community, now, and in the next 100 years!
Our goal is to grow our Fund to not less than $100,000 by May 2023. The purpose of the fund is two-fold:
Establish an additional annual income source to supplement and enhance our educational programming budget.
Provide a permanent opportunity for support from our Member Organizations, individual representatives, and former leaders/stake holders.
We are fundraising from our Member Organizations through 2022 and will shift to individual development through 2023. If your organization would like to make a gift, please consider the following: This gift could be across more than one fiscal year, some organizations have considered jointly funding between the fraternity/sorority and the related foundation, and as this is for educational use only, we believe set-aside funds could be used as well. Your organization may also make the gift in honor or in memory of as many individuals or groups as you’d like.
The central event in any year is FCA’s Annual Conference. The 2023 conference is to be held in Indianapolis from May 2-4. More details are forthcoming. We are excited to extend an invitation to every CEO, Foundation CEO, interfraternal leader, relevant past staff member, award recipient, vendor, and all past FCA Board members and Past Presidents to attend the Annual Conference in some capacity.
Additionally, we are engaging all of our membership and former leadership to identify best-in-class educational sessions and speakers for this year’s programming.
What we now know as the Fraternity Communications Association began as a spark of interfraternal cooperation in 1883. Editors of 14 men's fraternity magazines met in Philadelphia to promote this notion, which was followed by Editors of the National Interfraternity Conference (now the North American Interfraternity Conference) member organizations meeting at an annual dinner for many years thereafter.
On November 30 and Dec 1, 1923, the Collegiate Fraternity Editor’s Association was organized at the Hotel Pennsylvania, in New York City. CFEA’s headquarters was to be in Chicago, likely at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon national office, and their first Chair (now president) was William C. Levere, then SAE’s executive secretary.
There is much history to explore over 100 years. Stay tuned for more resources!
As we enter a new century of FCA, a refreshed brand will help carry our mission into the future. We’ll seek member input as we look to develop resources, guidelines and more, in order to strengthen and re-energize FCA’s visual identity.
