Coronavirus Update for FCA Annual Conference

Coronavirus Update for FCA Annual Conference

A Message from the FCA President

Dear Fellow FCA Member,

In accordance with the Mayor of Denver’s recent order regarding public gatherings, recent guidance from the CDC and the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fraternity Communications Association’s Board of Directors voted today to cancel the 2020 Annual Conference in Denver.

Though it’s extremely disappointing to send this message, I am thankful for the outstanding work of the FCA Board of Directors along with the Awards, Programming and Annual Conference Committees. Throughout the year, and over the past few weeks especially, I have witnessed thoughtful leadership and an unyielding dedication to the mission of the Fraternity Communications Association.

These volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure we would have one of the best Annual Conferences in FCA’s history. I am incredibly grateful for everyone’s work thus far throughout this crisis.

I know this cancellation impacts each of our organizations differently. The FCA Board has put the interests of our member organizations as our primary concern.

FCA Refunds – We have reached out to MemberPlanet and will be issuing full refunds including the processing fees over the next few days.

Hotel Rooms – If you booked your hotel room using the meeting link, your room will automatically be cancelled. If you booked a room with a third party like Kayak or Expedia, please contact that third party to cancel. To check on the status of your room, please call 1-800-HILTONS and reference the Fraternity Communications Association Annual Conference. Do not contact the hotel, they are completely overwhelmed.

Additionally, the FCA Board is having discussions on a number topics and will have more information for you in the coming weeks. These topics include awards program and distribution, a digital Annual Conference and/or modifications to Midyear Conference, Board of Directors elections, voting on Constitution Amendments, announcement of our new Strategic Plan and more.

I appreciate your patience as we evaluate the appropriate next steps for our association.

Finally, in my closing of last year’s annual conference, I shared a quote from a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, Danny Thomas, the founder of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Those who work for the good are as those who do the good.”

We, as communicators, are rarely thanked for the outstanding work we do to be the voices of our respective organizations. On behalf of the FCA Board of Directors, thank you for what you are doing to work for the good, so our membership and Professional Staffs can do the good.

Interfraternally,
Alex Baker
Fraternity Communications Association President
